Vi-Chem Corporation Completes Plant Expansion

Grand Rapids, Michigan -- Vi-Chem Corporation, a leading manufacturer of thermoplastic Elastomers and vinyl compounds, has completed its recent plant expansion at its Grand Rapids, Michigan location. The Vi-Chem plant expansion has increased production capacity by 20% and added valuable warehouse space.

The expansion started in October of 1998 and involved building a new building over the existing building, increasing the ceiling height to 32 feet through out the manufacturing plant. This significantly augmented the usable working space through the stacking of key equipment. This change increased the plant size from 100,000 square feet to 130,000 square feet and allowed Vi-Chem to remain in Grand Rapids.

“Included in this expansion was a complete revision of our computer controlled dry blending system,” stated Terry Hayward, Vi-Chem Plant Manager. “Even though the previous system was only 3 years old, control technology has changed at such a rapid pace that a complete revision was warranted. The result of this is an even tighter control of compounding than was previously available.”
